If we start deciding what children's books are "worthy" or not, we would be in a world of trouble!Nicole L.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16803189343078878170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318945445088870128.post-77048354068605860442017-03-23T07:30:23.941-04:002017-03-23T07:30:23.941-04:00I have to find Rain! :)I have to find Rain! :)GatheringBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04477710897574769648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318945445088870128.post-39913867664239265452017-03-16T16:04:50.358-04:002017-03-16T16:04:50.358-04:00I live in the rainy, rainy Pacific Northwest, so t...I live in the rainy, rainy Pacific Northwest, so that Rain book is just about perfect for the kids at my library!

And to be honest, I have a problem with the vilification of "princess" books. There's absolutely nothing wrong with little girls who want to read books about princesses being rescued by princes or who wear pink tutus! If girls want to be "girlie", that's A-Ok with me. What's wrong is when girls don't have other kinds of books available, or when girls are not allowed to read any other kinds of books, or when boys aren't allowed to read princess books! Choice, freedom and variety are the real keys here - read pretty pink princess books AND books about dinosaurs! Read books about brave knights in shining armor AND elephants! Read about ballet and math! Real all the books! :-) Jane @ www.raincitylibrarian.cahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12721142460522914540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318945445088870128.post-54940198401568764542017-03-15T20:01:14.156-04:002017-03-15T20:01:14.156-04:00Thanks for the good recommendations of books. I appreciate your video response, but to be honest, I am irritated by the princess criteria in the first place. Princesses in children's lit today are pretty kick ass characters. It reminds me of all the people who want to avoid pink because it's too feminine and boys will avoid it. I will now stop writing before I get into an anti gendered rant!Cheriee Weichelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15662398117320256935noreply@blogger.com
